Bomber Command Memorial
London, W1
Knightsbridge Security Systems were involved from the start of construction. Firstly, protecting the site with peripheral CCTV to deter vandalism and casual thefts. In the design stage we were asked to source discrete CCTV cameras that would not distract from the ascetics of the memorial, so the eight cameras had to be “virtually invisible”. There were four cameras around the central bronze Airman statues and one camera in each of the four lamp standards, which in the design layout depicted the four engines of an RAF WW2 Lancaster Bomber.
Purely out of interest, the lattice work roof inside, above the bronze airmen depicted the airframe inside a Lancaster Bomber. The metal that formed the lattice work was manufactured from an old Lancaster Bomber engine, melted down and recycled. Another design issue KSS managed to resolve was gettiing the CCTV signals from the eight cameras transmitted across Piccadilly via WIFI to the RAF club where they are monitored locally.
KSS are very proud to have been involved in such an interesting, prestigous and rewarding project.
